We brought together a multidisciplinary team of experts to discuss how architecture and interior design can be fundamental allies in improving the quality of life of autistic people. With the participation of Kátia Siqueira (Interior Designer), Miriam Negrão and Regina Meletti (Architects and Urban Planners, with Regina also being a specialist in Autism Inclusive Architecture), Flávia Barbosa (graduated in Social Work, postgraduate in ASD and autistic), and Manuela Feitosa (Physiotherapist and Teacher specializing in child and adolescent health), this chat is an exchange of experiences and knowledge about how spaces can be designed or adapted to meet the sensory and orientation needs of all ages.
We address common challenges faced by people on the autism spectrum, such as sleep difficulties, sensitivity to noise, intense lights, strong smells, and the need for clear guidance in public and private spaces. The lack of an adequate structure can lead to anxiety attacks, highlighting the importance of an architecture designed to be inclusive. This video aims to illuminate ways for architects, designers, educators, and the general public to understand and implement solutions that make our spaces more welcoming and safe, promoting well-being and inclusion through a sensitive and informed approach.
